Day 4 – Hanging With Hannah

Hannah was off today so we had planned to go do some fun things. She, like myself, loves estate sales. I was up earlier than she was and when I dropped Donny off the big one that we were planning on going to was right down the street from his store. I knew it was going to be crowded and I arrived about 15 minutes after it opened. There were so many people. I walked through the house but truly the best and less expensive items are always out in the garage and the backyard. Now here’s a very embarrassing thing that happened. It was just myself and this man out walking around the pool. We were both looking where the outside kitchen was and we were talking about how amazing the backyard area was. He said that he looked the house up on Zillow and it was a really good deal. He and his family recently moved here from Vegas and lived a few streets over. I told him that my husband and I had almost bought a house in this neighborhood and that I recently saw that it sold but whoever bought it had ruined it and turned it into a millennial gray house. Then he said, that’s my house. I said, there’s no way. He then pulled up a picture and yes, that was the house. Just push me in the pool with a big heavy rock right now. What in the world are the chances?!? Luckily he bought it like that and actually agreed that he did wish the previous owner would have left the wood or maybe he was just being nice. I was mortified. I left soon after that.

Hannah and I did go back and found some really cool things. She bought 2 pairs of earrings and a necklace. I bought things for the outdoors because the prices were SO good at this one.

The jars were only a dollar each and the beverage container is just like the one I make Hannah’s coffee drink in. I had been wanting to get another one because the kids go through it so fast. It was only $2.

The house was huge so they had some of the clothes hanging outside. If you know me, you know how much I love overalls and for a dollar these came home with me.

I didn’t have any green candles so I bought 2 bundles for a dollar each. I love Mexican pottery so for $4 this vintage hanging bird planter was a yes.

I love brass bells and got both of these for $4

This vintage folk art angel shelf didn’t have a price so they gave it to me for $3. I can’t pass up folk art. I just love it. Do I have a place for it yet. I don’t, but I will.

I desperately needed a trellis for the new cucumber vine. This one is perfect and was $5.

I was also needing a planter for my Mother of Thousands when they get a little bigger. I just loved this shallow bowl for $3.

I know winter is coming, but when I find such good deals on outside decor, I really can’t pass it up. The sun was $6 and the prices are still on the other two. I’m sure there were good things in the house, but the crowd inside was crazy and I’m pretty happy with what we found.

After a quick trip to Walmart we were headed the LMFA (Longview museum of Fine Arts) downtown. There were several new exhibits that both Hannah and I really wanted to see.

Brenda Bogart does collages. This bear is made of fish.

Good ole Willie.

Jimi Hendrix was spectacular.

There were 2 rooms of this artist and it was so colorful, like stepping into a party. The theme was Texas Dance Halls.

My very favorite artist that was featured was Lee Baxter Davis. All of his art pieces had a story behind them.

All of his pieces were like an adult eye spy game. Just amazing!

I can’t forget this amazing piece.

After the art museum we walked around downtown. I love that our downtown area is so art centered.

Hannah and I found and alley with about 5 of these tile art works.

I wish that we would have brought a blanket to just hang out here. Another day for sure.

Lastly we visited one of our favorite vintage shops, Ill Intent (opposite of goodwill). The mother and daughter owners are just such great people. Hannah found a spooky doll lamp. I didn’t take pictures because my phone was about to die.

Today I am grateful that I got to spend a day with Hannah because she is just a really fun person to hang around with even if she wasn’t my daughter.
