Day 6 – Gladewater

We weren’t sure if Donny was going to be able to take today off or not. Last night he found out that he was so we decided to have a day date with lunch and running around. It normally takes us forever to decide where to eat. Forever. I made the executive decision to go have Mexican food at the place we always drive by in Gladewater. Except that when we pulled into said Mexican restaurant it was actually a seafood place. Plan B. Right after quarantine was over we had eaten at this family owned restaurant and I had remembered that it was good food. We took a chance that it would still be there and it was.

It’s not fancy, but the food is so good. They have great lunch prices. Our server was the sweetest girl. Highly recommend if you are ever in Gladewater.

After lunch we needed to walk. I felt like a stuffed tick. Downtown is such a cute area with tons of antique stores. I had seen The General store on a TikTok video so I was excited to see what it had to offer.

It’s nothing like the Gerneral Store in Jefferson, but they did have an ice cream bar and yummy looking snacks. I got some ideas for stocking stuffers for sure.

We browsed a few more antique stores before heading back to the car.

In east Texas you will see so many oil rigs and pumpers. They are everywhere. Also, I don’t know why, but it surprised me to see the Christmas tree already up.

We have been seeing signs all over Longview about a distillery called Twisted Spirits. I’m not a big drinker, but Donny does love a good whiskey. I had forgotten that it’s in Gladewater. A little google mapping and we found it.

It is the coolest place. The owner’s granddaughter was working because he works in the oil fields and it only here 2 weeks a month. He will be back next week and we are really wanting to go talk to him and hear his story.

We got to go back into the cask room.

The selection is unreal. We tasted a few of the flavors. I like the dark chocolate espresso and the maple bourbon pecan. Donny liked the brown sugar one but it was way too strong for me. He also tried the dill pickle flavor but it wasn’t his favorite. We ended up coming home with the brown sugar and the maple bourbon pecan.

We had so much fun learning about all of the different proofs and flavors. It’s so cool to have this distillery right down the road. Also very good Christmas gifts and they do Christmas gift boxes also. I can’t wait to try the egg nog flavor.

We had a fun afternoon because getting out and doing things is always better than just sitting at home and there are so many cute little towns around where we live.

Honorable mention goes to the bracelet I bought at Hannah’s work a while back that just so happens to match my cuff perfectly.
