Lazy Sunday

I enjoy days were there is nothing on the agenda outside of the home. Today was one of those days. Donny and I woke up and watched Pompeii. I can’t believe I had never seen it or even remember it being in the theater. It was really good. It had me googling the real Pompeii facts so I learned something new today in more detail.

Then there was this.

The Saints got robbed by a missed call that would have been a complete game changer. On a side note, I will say that the Rams head coach, Sean McVey, coaches how I would if I were a coach. He takes chances that other coaches just don’t. I admire that.

There was also a lot of this.

Add a nail biter Chiefs/Patriots game. I don’t really care for either team, but I really like that young Chiefs quarterback. He never got visibly rattled which says a lot.

In case you didn’t walk outside last night, the moon was pretty cool.

I think it looks like a toasted marshmallow in this picture.

If you have an echo and haven’t played Fact or Fib with Alexa, you should. It’s fun and the kids actually might have learned something while playing. Win/win.

Hope your Sunday was lazy and relaxing too,

Stacy

Nailed the Casino Party

Donny and I never really go out, so it was a treat for his workplace to have a casino party. He had to work all day and I was still under the weather with some kind of respiratory issue, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me.

First of all, I want to give a shout out to Kiss Nails. I’m not a fan of wearing acrylic nails because I have it in my head that my nails can’t breathe when they are on. So, because I didn’t want to have to take the time to paint my nails I just used the glue on ones and……

I think they turned out pretty good considering they were only 3 bucks at Walmart. I will say this, you have to be pretty careful with the glue. I glued my fingers together, glued the pad of my finger to the top of the nail and got a few air bubbles. I still don’t think they look too bad for my first time. Reviews say they can last as long as 2 weeks. We’ll see.

The night started off really windy and cold. Almost to freezing, which for us is COLD. No problem, the inside of the hotel was warm and we had BBQ catered by Bodacious Barbecue and it was so good. If you ever find yourself in Longview, you really should try it. Only the location on Mobberly Ave. It is the original and the BEST one!

After dinner the gambling tables were open.

I tried craps first. Not my game. I kept losing and didn’t understand it at all.

Donny was having fun at the roulette table. If there is ever a picture that epitomizes him, this one is it. It’s good to married to someone as goofy as I am.

We were all give $3000 in fake money. At the end of the night, for every $1000 you have you get a ticket. There are prizes with cups in front of each one. If you really want a certain prize, you can put all your tickets in that cup or sprinkle them around for a better chance to win.

Our tickets. I think Jazmine, my blackjack dealer, helped me out a little.

Each couple can only win one prize. We really wanted the PS4, but so did a lot of other people. We didn’t win that, but Donny put one of his tickets in a cup with a lot of other tickets already in there and guess what we came home with?

I didn’t think I’d ever want one, but I will have to admit it is really cool and fun to play with.

For the people that didn’t win a prize, there were some leftover so it was rock, paper, scissors to see who would take what home.

Mike won his rock paper scissors.

Donny works with a bunch of good people. If you know any of our story, you know just how thankful we are for this.

And because we seem to never have pictures together I thought I’d include this one. Not too bad, Craig.

Hope you are having a good weekend too,

Stacy

Sunday – the winding down day

We don’t do a whole lot on Sundays. It’s our winding down day. A day to relax and get ready to start again on Monday. This Sunday was good. First of all the Saints won. That is helping me get over the loss the Cowboys endured. Plus, I love just hanging out with Donny on the couch watching a game.

After the game the guys decided to play some video games. DSCN1544.JPGFather son bonding at its finest. Hannah and I are not “gamers” in the least so we did our thing in the breakfast nook.DSCN1546.JPGFarkle is one of our favorite games. You don’t actually need the game in the box, just 6 dice and a piece of paper to keep score. You can Google the instructions. I lucked out and got this complete, never used game at Goodwill for 59 cents. Our cat Monkey is always right there in the middle of everything. Have you ever played this weirdly named game? It really is fun.DSCN1545.JPGIf I fits I sits.

I have to say a little about the candle. It was 3.99 at Ollie’s and besides smelling just dreamy, when the wax melts it turns orange and red. Reminds me of a sunset over the water. DSCN1547.JPG

Here’s hoping you had a super relaxing, battery recharging Sunday also.

Weekend Rest

It’s the weekend, so I decided to take a break from my Konmari journey to just relax a bit. The Cowboys were playing in the playoffs and if you didn’t know, well……..

DSCN1541.JPGI have been a Dallas Cowboy fan since I was very, very young. When I was 3 all I wanted  for Christmas was a Dallas Cowboy football uniform. My mom kept trying to talk me into the cheerleader uniform, but I would have none of it. So here I am, as an almost 4 year old, wearing my prize uniform.

Even though my team lost and I was very sad we had some yummy baked goods that my daughter and I whipped up because they are both quick and super easy. Not to mention really good.

Cream Cheese Pecan Cookies

Ingredients:

2 sticks of butter (at room temp)

4 oz cream cheese

1 cup sugar

1 egg yolk

1 tsp vanilla

2 1/4 cup flour

1/2 salt

1/4 tsp baking powder

Cream butter and cream cheese together. Add sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Gradually add flour, salt and baking powder. Scoop about a tablespoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet. (I line mine with parchment paper). Top with a pecan half. (I only had to pecan pieces and they worked just fine)

Bake at 350 for 12-14 minutes

They are SO good. Not too sweet and very buttery.

We also made cheesecake swirl brownies. It’s just regular box brownies, but when you add the cheesecake swirl it becomes something totally different. I’m not a big fan of plain brownies, but these are wonderful. The cheesecake cuts the overly sweetness of the chocolate.

Cheesecake Swirl

6 oz cream cheese

5 T softened butter

1/3 cup sugar

2 Large Eggs

2 T flour

1/2 tsp vanilla

You just mix all of this up together until smooth and drop it my spoonfuls over 1/2 your batter. Next just pour the rest of the brownie batter on top and swirl it with a knife. This was for a 9×13 pan. If you do the smaller 9×9, just cut the recipe in half.

I think it would be great with any cake batter also.

DSCN1539.JPGEven my son who is not a chocolate lover liked these.  They are seriously good.

Hope you are having a nice relaxing weekend also. I’m off to lick my wounds and watch the Saints (my second favorite team) hopefully beat the Eagles. Who dat!
