Chatgpt

I had heard so much about chatgpt and how it could give a person suggestions on decor style. I decided to give it a try. I took two pictures of our living room and asked what my style is.

Chatgpt told me that my style was Eclectic Bohemian with Folk Art Influences. That is completely correct. Here is the picture that “spruced” it up. I love the look, but our front door is off to the left and doesn’t really work with the mock up. Also, I’m not changing the stereo stand, but I totally get what it was going for.

Because I do love string lights, but they aren’t practical where chatgpt suggested, I pulled the ones our cat had knocked off that we had under our TV. Unfortunately, they no longer worked. I remembered that I had picked some up at Big Lots before it closed. They were candy corn colored and meant for Halloween, but I decided to go ahead and give them a try. I was also sick of the frosted covers I had put in the glass front doors of our entertainment center. I swapped the frosted look for the same fabric as the runner that’s on top. Don’t tell anyone, but they are placemats.

It looks really cool at night because of the orangey/yellow glow it gives off.

We’re watching the series Dark In case anyone was wondering what in the world that screenshot is from.

I love the way the clown looks in the light.

I’ve also had this painting for a while. I love it and wanted to use it somewhere so I just decided to add to the gallery wall behind the rocker. I also made the art of the two waiters that I think complements the painting so well.

It’s always fun to get ideas and switch things around in your home, don’t you think?

Easy Furniture Update

I sometimes feel as though I have more projects than time. I finally decided to tackle my 12 year old daughters room. Truthfully, she couldn’t care less what her room looks like, but since I care it was time to get started.

Here is a picture of her room from our old house. My husband found her chest of drawers at a junktique store in New Orleans. It had good bones, but was rough. The color was a whitish green. The knobs were some kind of metal buried underneath dark brown tarnish. I think the photographer (this is from when our home was for sale) doctored it up a bit, because it was worse than this.

Hannah also needed a desk. It couldn’t be a regular student sized desk because she does a lot of art. We needed to find one that was large enough for to be able to work without feeling cramped. I picked up this one at the thrift store for 30 bucks.

The size was perfect, but the top was kind of beat up. I also got her bookshelf to the left for free on Craigslist about 9 years ago.  The chair was from our old dining room set.

So with a few products, I completely changed the look of the pieces.

I think they turned out really good.

I have never spray painted a major piece of furniture, but I will now. The Rustoleum 2X ultra coverage is amazing! I only had to touch up a few places. Most of it was covered in one coat. I didn’t even sand it down.

For the knobs I used Bar Keeper’s Friend.

I love the way they look against the Vintage Teal paint.

For the desk I sanded the top 4 times. I knew that it was going to have a “rustic” look, just because I have worked with this type of finish before. I was okay with that because I really like that look.

I painted the chair to match.

The color looks really blue in this picture, but it’s more of a turquoise.

I also painted the bookshelf.

We still have a few more things we want to do in here. I’d like to find a larger rug and she really wants a swing chair, but I think we’re off to a good start.

I love her day bed cover. It has all the colors that are in her room and it’s easy to slip off for sleeping. She uses a white down comforter that is stored in her closet when not being used. The picture below shows how much brighter it actually is.

This picture turned out a little dark, but you can see the other side of her room.

One project down, many more to go.
