A Little Crafty Time

We woke up to a cold, gray, drizzly day. The perfect day to do some craft projects I’ve set aside for a while.

First I wanted to get some oranges dried.

I used my mandolin to get uniformed slices. Only a couple got a little dark. They turned out pretty good.

Next I made some cinnamon ornaments.

They smell so good but I can tell they are going to take a few days to fully dry out. I want to make a garland with the oranges and these.

I also wanted to make some orange pomanders. I only had enough cloves for two, but these also smell so good.

After a quick kitchen clean up I finished the episode I started last night.

I did end up finishing the episodes this evening. I am not a fan of breaking the season up into two blocks and then having the finale on January 1st. I wish they would just stream all of the episodes. It’s so good though. I think it is one of my favorite seasons. Donny doesn’t watch Stranger Things, but he is a good sport and when it hit Netflix on Wednesday he asked me if I wanted to watch Weird Stuff before bed. He only lasted about 5 minutes before he was sound asleep.

The kids and I did go back to the mall so Jackson could use his coupon at MiniSo. I was happy to say that there were quite a lot of people. Our mall is small but mighty. It was about to go under until Dillard’s and another investment group bought it. There are more stores and now more people. Progress!

This is the second night my cat Monkey has given me a heart attack.

Suprise Surprise!

Making Faces

Today, because I was running on about 4 hours sleep, I decided I just wanted to do something crafty. I couldn’t leave the house because I had to sign for Donny’s father’s day gift that was arriving today. He actually ordered it himself and it ended up coming after he got home. I wanted to try to make some faces with the face mold I picked up at the thrift store the other day. The only bake clay I had was some that the kiddos have had for a few years, but I just wanted to see how easy it would be so that’s what I used until I can actually go get some fresh clay.

I didn’t care if the colors were all mixed together because I wanted to paint the faces once they had baked.

Here is the first batch I made and painted.

I made a few more and even tried to make a sun. It’s kind of wonky, but I really used these as test faces.

I can’t wait to get some different clay and mess around with it again.

I don’t know if your Burger king has whopper meals on Wednesdays for $4.99, but that’s what we had for dinner because I was wiped out from lack of sleep. It’s after midnight now and I should be deep asleep but Donny and I started watching Expedition to Hell and are now hooked. It’s a crazy documentary about this 5000 mile trek across the Amazon. It’s nuts! (On Prime)

It’s Getting Real

Hannah’s first real day of summer vacation took us to Michael’s so she could pick out decorations for her graduation cap. She had a general idea of what she wanted it to look like, but with so many choices it took awhile.

She did such a good job on it.

Jackson’s last day is tomorrow. One day of finals left. He’s aced all of his so far. He’s such a smart kid and is really ready for summer break.

Cheap Art

Today I had to run by Donny’s work to pick up my Aldi bags that we had put in his trunk when we went camping. He asked me to run by Dollar Tree since it’s next door to Aldi. I really and truly went in with the only intention of getting the bleach and spray bottle he asked for. But then, you know you just have to walk around the store, I found this really cool sun made out of metal. The metal was a weird silver that looked kind of awful, but I really liked the sun.

I brought it home and spray painted it. I didn’t know where to hang it, but then I realized it would look good against our turquoise door. So that’s where it ended up. For $3.00, I think it looks pretty good.

Aldi also had some good looking watermelons. We always leave some meat on the rind for the chickens because they love watermelon.

I love wild looking plants. The more unkempt the better. Aldi had some really pretty flowering ones. My favorite color is yellow so that’s the one I grabbed. I also had to re-pot the palm that was in the rooster because it was flat out dying. I think the metal gets hot and the plant didn’t like that.

It’s suppose to be nice tomorrow but rain the next few days after that. I’m planning on rearranging our flower beds. They are a little sparse right now. I’ll take some pics to show how it goes, hopefully.

P.S.

My brother in law sent the photos he took of Hannah. I can’t wait to share some of them. They turned out so good.
