Day #67 – Flair Ups

I felt like I’ve been having a Hashi’s flair up for a few days now. I’ve been taking my thyroid medicine, but sometimes it just happens out of the blue. I also now know that I can’t eat chili with out having an “I don’t have a gallbladder” flair up also. It’s called a bile dump and it’s a gross as it sounds. It also makes you feel nauseous and just yucky.

I did get something done today though. We have a sock box. I don’t know if anyone else does, but it’s a box where all the unmatched socks go to die, or at least hopefully one day find their mate.

Some were lucky and found their sole mate, but alas, some did not.

I don’t know why it’s been so hard for me to throw them away. Some have literally been in there for years. I did keep a few that I’m pretty sure the mates are hanging around under a bed or jammed in a drawer somewhere.

Tonight I went to get a glass out of the cabinet.

The wood on the shelf is completely smooth, right? Well I found the one place that it wasn’t and shoved a splinter down into my nail bed. My finger immediately got hot and started throbbing. I couldn’t grab hold of it so I had to cut my nail off into the quick to be able to use the tweezers to get the very top of the splinter.

I would never survive the torture where they shove sticks under your nails. I’d give up whatever information they wanted. All they would have to do is show me the stick.

And just because they looked so cute laying on the bed.

The kitten is getting so big. She’s still a troublemaker, but we all love her. Milo is just a big ole sweetie, but still scared of ceiling fans although last night he snuck in and slept on the foot of our bed.

Day #66 – Just A Rainy Saturday

It has been raining for the past two days. It’s cooled everything off so much. If the weather report is correct we aren’t supposed to get into the 90’s for at least 10 days.

Since it had been a crazy week I took advantage of the lull the weather provided and cleaned the house. Hannah was away, Donny was at work so it was just Jackson and myself.

I try to do laundry every other day, but last week we were still getting into the groove of the new schedules so laundry got pushed to the wayside.

My laundry room is outside. It’s very small but efficient.

During the rounds of laundry there was some of this.

I like to watch a lifetime-ish movie while I fold laundry. Today I watched Summer House. It was okay, nothing special. I did start The Monkey last night and finished it this morning while I had breakfast. It was pretty good, especially if you like the comedy horror genre.

I do love how when it’s dark and rainy outside you can just turn on a lamp and it makes everything so cozy.

Because we are nearing the end of summer, I decided to light my peach nectarine candle. During the fall/winter months I prefer my cinnamon, nutmeg or vanilla candles.

Now that the house is clean, it’s time to relax and do a little reading. I hope everyone had a very restful day.

Day #65 – Haircut

It poured all day. I was so ready to get my haircut. I don’t know what I’ll do if Desiree ever stops being a hair stylist. She’s the only one I trust cutting my hair.

I kind of wish I would have gotten a little more taken off the length, but my layers are so much better now. I still wear it curly everyday, but we wanted to see what it would look like a little straighter.

Please excuse the no makeup I’ve been in the rain all day look. We really need the rain though.

Also, we think a hawk tried to get one of our chickens today. There were a lot of feathers, but luckily they are all still there.

Day #64 – Meal Planning

This week has worn me out. This is Donny’s only full day off this week because of Labor Day. I really did not feel like doing a meal plan, but we needed to go grocery shopping and without having a list, that can get dangerous. So I made myself sit down and write out a list and plan out 11 meals.

Are they all completely healthy? No, but I know the kids will eat these meals and most of them are quick-ish. I grabbed my list and off we went to Aldi.

Because I am a control freak in Aldi, this was very hard for me. I have a certain way that I like to scan and bag the items. I’m proud to say I didn’t say a word and he did a good job. We spent right at $140 which I thought was pretty good for everything we bought. I feel like we save so much money eating at home. This also includes breakfasts and lunches. I also always have staples on hand.

When we got home I had to clean out the fridge. I should have done it before we left, but Hannah’s boyfriend had gone to campus to pick her up after her class. She had forgotten her phone and he couldn’t find her. After over an hour he finally found her in the library thanks to Jackson’s suggestion. I did get the fridge cleaned out though.

It was like playing Jenga.

Much better.

Tonight I decided to make pepperoni rolls.

Look at that pretty dough. My popcorn bowl is the perfect proofing bowl for this dough.

They turned out pretty good.

I made a big salad and ranch for dipping. I unfortunately can’t eat the dough so I had a pepperoni salad.

Then a huge thunderstorm blew through. I had to go outside and move some plants. It was pouring!!!

Tomorrow is my hair appointment and I cannot wait. I need my layers cut so badly.

Slinky came out early tonight. He looked like he swam across a lake, poor thing. He took a little nap under my car, ate and then went on his way. It’s too dark out tonight, but first thing tomorrow I’m going to check on all the plants and hope they didn’t get too damaged by the wind and rain.

Day #63 – If You Can’t Fix It Duck It

I really love my wicker patio chairs. They are just so comfortable. We bought the little bistro set 8 years ago at an estate sale. Well for the past few months the wicker has been unraveling. It’s not fixable, at least as far as reweaving it. When you sit in the chair I sit in, the wicker will poke you in the back of the legs.

I saw a video where someone wrapped Saran wrap around their chair. I decided I would try something like that. I found some terracotta tape at Michael’s and decided to just wrap that seat.

I honestly thought about cutting a wood seat out, but I just seriously did not feel like taking the time to measure and then i’d still have to make a seat cover. (Cut my Crocs some slack, I had been mowing all day) So, I just wrapped that seat one way and they wrapped it the other way.

It might look redneck as hell, but I’m here to tell you this chair has never been more comfortable.

So I will 100% stand by my decision to wrap my chair. The other one is pulling apart also, but it’s not that bad. And yes, I could buy more wicker chairs, heck I have extra chairs in the shed, but these chairs are so comfortable I will do anything to fix them. Obviously LOL

Day 62 – A Day in the Life

Day starts at 5 am. Make coffee, feed cats, take some deep breaths.

6:15 – wake Hannah up, make her breakfast, clean up kitchen, get dressed and ready to go

7:45 – grab a spoonful of peanut butter and drive to Kilgore. Drop Hannah off and remind her to go to her advisor to get her schedule changed if they are able to.

9:00 – get home, make Jackson breakfast, Donny only works 1/2 a day due to Labor Day. Eat a slice of cheese. Make Tea. Clean kitchen and the rest of the house.

12:15 – grab a couple of rice crackers and hummus, head to Kilgore with Jackson.

12:45 – Find Hannah. She is looking around all of the tents the different organizations have set up. Completely forgot about talking to advisor. Find said advisor in the library and find out she isn’t able to switch classed because the time frames don’t fit.

1:15 – Head to Michael’s to buy the gigantic art tablet that they both need. Find more supplies they will need. See truck that reminds me of Final Destination.

2:00 – Finally make it home. Donny is also home. We run to the grocery store to get some things I need for dinner.

2:50 – Leave for Hannah’s hair appointment

3:45 – decided to stop by Ross. Hannah finds a pair of boots, but not luck on the small sketch pad we need.

4:30 – Throw a roast in the instant pot. Donny, Jackson and I go to Hobby Lobby to find sketch pads. Not only do we find sketch pads, but we find the gigantic ones for 10 dollars cheaper than we paid at Michael’s. Buy the gigantic ones plus other supplies they are going to need ( these art classes are $$$) While at Hobby Lobby I start shaking and feeling sick. Donny gets me a cinnamon lollypop. and I feel better.

5:15 – Throw veggies in the oven and Donny and I head to Michael’s to return the way overpriced gigantic tablets.

7:00 – Food is finally ready and I get to eat.

I am hoping by next week we have got it more down pat. I now know I need to have snacks in the car so I don’t make myself sick by forgetting to eat. The first week is always the hardest right?

Day #61 – New Chapter

I am beat. I think I was as nervous as the kids were for their first day. We’re still trying to get the rhythm of how our days are going to be. I am always the first one to wake up. I need my early morning alone time go out and feed the animals and then have coffee on the patio. I go over everything that I need to do that day.

Jackson woke up and I made him breakfast and then I woke Hannah up because I was taking Jackson first since Hannah didn’t have a class until later. This is going to hopefully change when she goes to see if she can get her schedule changed.

After I got everyone off I came home to prep dinner, clean the house and then get ready to head back to Kilgore. I was so happy to hear that they had run into their friends. Jackson and his best friend found the coffee shop in the student center, which he was impressed with. Hannah was with one of her best friends. They actually all hung out together. Hannah and Jackson have never had a class together and now they have two, which I think is going to be a very good thing.

They are excited about school. They love the campus. I called my sister because she was a cheerleader at KC and she’s thrilled that they are both going there. We even sang the fight song over the phone because we are complete dorks. I hope that once all of the assignments start coming up they will still love it. I think they will.

Jackson is already contemplating where he wants to go once he finishes at KC. SFA is number 1 on the list right now.

Day #60 – Slinky the Incontinent Skunk

I feed the night critters (and the day ones also). We have a sweet little skunk that either got hit by a car or was born with a defect. He cannot walk so he slithers. It’s almost like he’s partially paralyzed. The problem with that is that it makes him incontinent. I was putting the food bowl on the patio until I realized that he cannot help it when his “stink” slips out. So now I feed him in the grass away from us.

We try to be mindful of him. It takes him almost an hour to eat. The other night I thought he was choking and could just see myself trying to dislodge the food. Luckily he did it on his own. We have two younger skunks that will come up and eat, but I have noticed that they treat Slinky with respect and let him eat without bothering him. They will fuss among themselves though. One night I want to follow him (he’s a slow slitherer) to see where he goes.

We have also started feeding more of the stray cats. Our neighbors across the street were feeding the ones living on their side (it’s like west side story turf war between the cats) but they have started all coming to eat around dusk. I have to keep O’malley inside because, although he too was street cat with them, he’s very protective of his home base now.

Tonight I finally got to touch the grey and white one who we call Fidget. She is getting braver and walking up to me. The two little black ones are newcomers.

This is Mr. Whiskers. He’s always let me love on him and is very protective of the other ferals. I need to get him fixed because I have a feeling he has fathered most of the ones that come to eat. Someone put a flea collar on him, but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t belong to anyone.

Oh and I colored my hair today and I’m posting it so I can remember when I did it. I didn’t have a hair bag so I just wrapped my head in Saran wrap.

I have been using the Wella color from Sally’s and I really like it. I use medium intense blond with a 30 developer. It’s so close to my natural color so I’ll take it.

The kids start college tomorrow. I think I’m more nervous than they are.

Day #59 – DIY Face Cleanser & Body Oil

I woke up without a headache today. Thank you generic Tylenol PM. I decided to get a little crafty. I am almost out of my Mad Hippie Cleansing Oil, so I decided to make my own. I had seen a recipe that called for castor oil and olive oil. I personally don’t like using olive oil on my skin. I had some liquid coconut oil so I decided to use that instead.

It’s just 1/4 cup castor oil

1/4 cup coconut oil

Then I added 6 drops each of Lavender, Frankincense and geranium

To use it put about 1/2 in your hand and rub it into you face. Wet a wash rag with the hottest water you can stand and drape the wash rag over you face for a minute. Just wipe your face off when you’re done. I used it today and it made my skin so soft.

I love body oil, especially right after I get out of the shower. For this one I used grapeseed oil. I added frankincense, rosemary, geranium and lavender.

I just put it in a pump bottle I already had and I’ll keep it in the bathroom. The longer they sit, the stronger the essential oil scent will become. They both smell really good.

Day #58 – KC

To some KC means Kansas City, but around here it stands for Kilgore College. Today we had to run up to campus to make sure all of Hannah’s finance was in order and register her for 2 more classes. Jackson is taking 16 hours and Hannah is taking 12.

I thought school started on the 30th. I found out it actually starts on Monday. The kids are excited about this new chapter of their lives. We had to walk across campus to talk to their advisor.

It’s such a great little school which I think is going to be perfect for the kids. Jackson’s best friend said he saw us, but was busy moving into his dorm. I asked Jackson if he wanted to live in the dorms, but he said he’d rather live at home which is fine by me. Hannah also still wants to live at home.

If you hadn’t noticed, Kilgore was once a booming oil town and you can see pumper jacks all around.

My sister actually went to college here when I was 4. I still remember the fight song (she was a cheerleader and although we lived in Corpus we came up when we could). I’m the only one impressed that I still know it. I hope we get to go to some of the football games this Fall.

Jackson had a doctor’s appointment to get his meningitis shot later in the afternoon. I hadn’t realized that we can see the newly painted water tower from the parking lot. Cut me some slack, it’s a big deal here.

We went to Walmart as a family. You kinda have to take what you can get as far as outings go. Hannah, who normally dresses up and wears heels, decided she needs to rethink her footwear after walking around campus. We found the cutest sneakers at Walmart. Hannah is not into fancy brands, she just likes what she likes.

I think they will serve her well. Plus we were impressed with some of their clothing selection even though we really prefer thrifting because fast fashion is not good. However, sometimes when you need something in particular you have to actually go to a big box store.

And can we say an Amen that my hair appointment is on the 29th? I need my layers cut so badly.

Yeah, I don’t know what the whole bang area is doing. Eek.

It’s only 9:00, but I’ve had a headache all day. We picked up some Tylenol (fake brand) pm so I’m going to take that and try to sleep. Hopefully I’ll wake up feeling so much better.
